The German Aerospace Center (DLR) is an independent non-profit research establishment with the objectives to carry out research in aeronautics, space, energy, and transportation (automotive and railway), to construct and operate large scale test facilities, to manage aerospace projects, and to serve as the German space agency. All activities are conducted in 35 research/management units located in 13 sites, and with approximately 7,000 employees in total.
The proposed activities in ECOMISE are performed at the DLR – Institute of Composite Structures and Adaptive Systems (Head of Institute Prof. Martin Wiedemann) in the Center of Excellence (CoE) Composite Structures which has a vast experience and proven expertise in theoretical and experimental structural mechanics as well as in design and manufacturing of lightweight fibre composite structures.
Relevant experience for ECOMISE is drawn from major running and recent projects. Within several direct funded projects manufacturing simulation methods and experimental validation methods were developed, in order to significantly increase the efficiency and reliability of composite manufacturing processes. The development of methods and tools for composite design, analysis and manufacturing as well as the implementation of the composite tool chain are also supported by the major projects ALCAS (EC), MAAXIMUS (EC), LOCOMACHS (EC), ViTECH (German funded), ComTAB (German funded) as well as direct industrial funding (automotive and ship building industry). Further, DLR has also co-chaired a GARTEUR action group on process simulation of composites. Sound expert knowledge on development of fast simulation procedures and on numerical analysis has been assembled. |
